I have 2 college age sons who have been sharing a car. The car has a GPS. My older son, however, is working out of state and has the car, and the GPS. My younger son is using one of our family cars for the summer. But we didn’t have a GPS for the extra car. That meant my son was less likely to get to his destination. I researched all the GPS units and determined the 1350LMT was the right one. Good size screen, lots of functionality, reliable, and lifetime updates. The ‘lifetime updates’ feature was very important. Roadways change. How many times has a GPS that hasn’t been updated taken you to a place that had nothing to do with the destination you thought you had requested. I have a Mercedes with a built in GPS. $299 each time for an updated DVD of the roads. Crazy! I just don’t buy the disk – so more times I end up nowhere. I was not going to make that mistake again.

When the unit arrived it was easy to get it going. It did require me to register it online and go through a download. An easy process but the download does take time. It was then ready to go. Since many reviewers had recommended purchasing a Garmin portable friction mount, I did. Good move. It works beautifully. The unit itself is easy to program (I haven’t ventured to use the more sophisticated functions). It does take some time to familiarize oneself with the ins and outs. For example when I first tried to program it I couldn’t figure out why it wouldn’t find the town. I didn’t realize on the prior screen you had to select a state. Little things like that.

The price for the unit from Amazon was extremely competitive – the best around. Very happy so far. Most importantly, my son is now arriving efficiently at his destinations.
